Rule 5 Draft

Update [2007-12-6 11:11:19 by jpleeg2]: My apologies....Crabbe is a second baseman, not a pitcher.

As KT and Alderson both alluded to in the last few days, the Padres picked up TWO arms in this morning's Rule 5 draft.

I don't have the time right now to look up info on these 2 guys, but since they have to stay on the 25 man roster throughout the season (unless they pass thru waivers or are injured), I'm guessing our pen is gonna have some changes (more than we all thought).

If anyone could look up some info, it'd be great.

Round 1:
Mike Gardner, who has a low 90s fastball, goes to the Padres; Gardner was in the Yankees organization.

Round 2:
The Padres took Callix Crabbe from the Brewers system in the second round.

I hope we can catch some lightning in a bottle with at least 1 of these guys, similar to what we did with KCam last season.

Crabbe's OBP
Wow, those are a lot of walks from a guy that doesnt seem to have much power. If you look at his stats throughout the minors, sometimes he had more walks than strikeouts

Trade
Padres traded for Carlos Guevara, who was selected by the Marlins with the fourth pick, his numbers in the minors look good (with amazing strikeout numbers). I believe he is a screwball specialist

Uncle Milty
MLB Trade Rumors just posted a link to MLB.com reporter Jim Molony's Nashville meetings blog.

"The Padres and free agent Milton Bradley are close to finalizing a one-year deal to bring the outfielder back to San Diego for another season."

I likey
Resigning Milty to a 1 year deal is a good move for the Padres.

If you remember the interview with BDSSP immediately after the injury, he has something to prove this year.

And, as most of us discussed last season, when he's healthy, the dude is quite simply a FORCE!!

To that end, I've read that he's lost 15 pounds in an attempt to reduce his injuries, and he's probably also rehabbing the heck outta his knee....read another blurb that the Reds doctor who performed his surgery gave a very encouraging report to KT. His agent supposedly told KT that Milty will be ready on or around Opening Day.

Now, if we can sign Eff You Dome, I think we can have a productive OF.

(1) Put Giles in LF, where he belongs...he was already lacking in range, and now after microfracture surgery, he's sure to have lost a couple steps.
(2) If Milty is healthy, he's our CF.
(3) Put Eff You Dome in RF, where he is supposedly the most comfortable.

With Shrek as our 4th, I'd be good opening the season with that alignment.

More about Uncle Milty
Corey Brock is reporting that the deal for Uncle Milty is for one year between $3.5 and $4 million.

Love it
But by no means are we even close to having a full OF.  Giles and Milty probably won't even play a full 163 game season combined.
