Peavy to the Yanks...

I was crusing deadspin and saw this on the blogdome about the Yanks "kicking the tires" on a Peavy deal, and how Buster Olney is full of shit, along with the WWL. They report a million "rumors" hoping that one sticks, because if it does, then they would be on their game for awhile.

I'd have to agree with the article. What say you?

Totally disagree
The whole rant just indicates that the writer isn't familiar in any way with Towers and Alderson.

As we discussed several times over the course of the season, now is exactly the time Towers would be throwing Peavy's name out there if they aren't going to sign him to a fat cat deal because it's hard to foresee his value ever being greater than what it is right now.  Towers and Alderson aren't going to eat up a huge percentage of the payroll with one guy and they can't afford to let him walk away without something.  I think it's more likely that he'd be traded next off-season, but I really believe Towers is letting people know he'll listen if they wanna talk.

Exactly. Making Peavy 'available'
doesn't mean he's going somewhere right away.  It just increases the possibility of getting a really great package for him by making teams compete....

I would love to see Peavy have a dominant San Diego career. Market realities say that won't (sadly) happen.  We have smart front office and they won't let Peavy just slip away for nothing...

I mean, look at that Linebrink deal--by the end of the season, getting Thatcher for Linebrink straight up looked lopsided.  And now consider the two young arms in our farm system in Inman and Garrison.  Inman, in particular, could end up in our rotation.  Right there, they've strengthened the team right now, and in the future, by 'selling' a guy 'high' (not at his highest, perhaps, as in the Linebrink-for-Rowand rumors, but still getting a lot of value by exploiting the trade deadline).

Listening on Peavy is a good idea, no matter how much I want Jake here.
