Uncle Barry back in school!

After weeks of anticipation and complete secrecy, the day finally arrived for Uncle Barry to visit his niece at school.

In case you are new to Gaslamp, my son Alex shares a  5th grade classroom with Barry Zito's niece. Hence the Uncle Barry moniker. About a month ago Alex swore me to secrecy and told me that his class would be getting a special visitor. Yesterday was the day! Alex was ready with our camera. Their teacher had to close the window blinds and logged the hour with Uncle Barry as "Physics" so no other class knew about it. Not an incorrect topic actually since he demonstrated his different pitch grips and talked to them about how/why each one spins and travels differently to the plate. He posed for pictures, signed autographs and answered the kids questions. Come to the pizza party on Feb 10th to hear Alex tell you more!

very cool
Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

I feel like...
he's and Uncle to us all.

heh heh
Yes, Alex resisted the urge to tell him so!

He did promise that we wont boo him. That will be hard. I mean, his name is Barry, he plays for the Giants - the urge to booo is great!

The next Gaslampball shirt
...should be Uncle Barry on the back of a Padres milk carton. Come home Uncle Barry!

Omigosh I love that!

Heck - you know the Padres - they wont be interested until he is much closer to 40 :-)

What a gay sweater he's wearing
Has San Francisco already claimed his manhood?

by RBS on Jan 30, 2007 8:50 PM PST reply actions

Really?
I was just thinking that I need a sweater like that.

by jbox on Jan 30, 2007 10:44 PM PST up reply actions

maybe you can buy it
At the Giants Fest Garage sale; where they put all the players "weekend" sweaters out to bid.

That's excellent
that's a pretty cool physics lesson from Uncle Barry. I am happy Alex experienced that. Is Uncle Barry wearing a visitors badge? Can Alex now throw a curve that drops off the table?

by Pants on Jan 31, 2007 10:16 AM PST reply actions

Not allowed to throw curves yet!
He's only 10 ;-> His only pitching experience was in LL last year and it was not the best thing he's done. He's a much better 2nd baseman or right fielder. He is very fast and has quick, soft fielding hands. Working on his batting right now because he made it to the majors level in LL meaning he will be facing 12 year old pitchers - yikes!

Yes, Uncle Barry is wearing a visitors badge. So the front office knew he was there, but no one else did!

If his physics class
needs guests to show them how to create a really strange baseball blog.  Let us know.

Awesome
That's a class move by Barry.  Those kids will remember that for life.

"I remember years ago when this dude in a super gay sweater came to class and taught me how to throw a killer curve.  He was supposed to be a  Padre, but decided to sucker the Giants out of a metric f load of money"
