Even ESPN is changing their allegiances!!

The whole year I've been watching Sport Center and Baseball tonight and the whole time they all kept saying the Dodgers were going to win the west.  Last night... boy did they change their views.  They said the Dodgers and Phillies were going to fight it out for the wild card, but the Phillies will come away with it.  They said the Padres have everything going for them to win the West.  I LOVE it!!!  Finally some east coast bias turning more west coast.  Well...maybe I can't go that far, but it sure is nice to hear them bank on the Padres.

Hey, on another note, I was watching the Saints game tonight and started thinking... wouldn't that be so cool if New Orleans & the Chargers made the Super Bowl.  I know it's only the 3rd week and Chargers have only played 2 games, but hey, there's a chance right?  Brees vs Rivers... wouldn't that be somethin'?

Peter Gammons moves for no man
Gammons pegged the Padres to win the division at the beginning of the year.

ESPN
Of course they change their tune when there are only 6 games left. I never once heard one of them choose the pads ever the whole season. Gammons, while a bit too proud of his RedSox, is a stand up guy that rarely chooses teams via a bias.

Shoot the other night ESPN made some comment about the Dodgers being in first in the west. I had to rewind it because I wasn't sure if that's what they said... sure enough, they were hyping Nomars walk off slam and the announcer said "The First Place Dodgers". Are they delusional? The weren't even the front running wild card team.

Orel
predicted last week on BBT that it would be the Padres and Phils.  I think it was Thur eve, because my neighbor and I were discussing it on Fri.  His is a life long Dodger fan and this was too much for him!

those picking pads early and often
seemed to be the guys that recognized the quality and depth of the pitching staff from starters to bullpen.

orel of course is going to be hard up on the pads becuase of pitching.

also, for the other busters, it will always be east coast bias...there is no such thing as "west coast bias".

what you are seeing there is bandwagonners and people that see now that the magic number is clearly on their side and they can now make predictions with better probability.

so is it too late to refer back to early blogs and my defense of towers that he did not ruin the team by going all ape shit during the trade deadline and the dodgers making waves would be the ones to finish ahead....or is that jinxing us??

ESPN pre-season predictions
Proof, meet pudding. Only John Shea picked the Pads to win the West. He also picked the Blue Jays to beat the Cardinals in the World Series...and Mark Teixeira and Ken Griffey Jr. to be the MVPs.

No one picked the Padres to be the wild card team. Then again, no one picked Detroit to make the playoffs. Hell, only Rob Neyer picked the Twins to make the playoffs, whom he predicted to lose to the Dodgers in the World Series. I guess NL MVP J.D. Drew would lead them to the title.

This is why you have to love baseball, predictions mean pretty much nothing.

Just goes to show
why we play the games.  The "experts" weren't even close on any of those predictions.  2 people chose Peavy as Cy Young and look at the year he's had.
