Peavy goes again today. We know it's impossible for him to get the win, so maybe if he can just keep us tied until a reliever comes in we'll have a chance.

A distraction since we just blew bases loaded..

Alex and I met Andy Ashby today at the Discount Tire store in Encinitas. He is so cool! I recognized him right away sitting out front waiting for his car. Since we were doing the same we sat out by him and he just seemed happy to chat with us. Very relaxed and tanned - said he loves it when people recognize him. While we were chatting a couple of the employees came out and asked for his autograph so Alex got one too. He says he is loving retirement since he finally gets to be a dad to his 4 girls (yikes! 4!). I told Andy that Alex and I were there when he made the bullpen appearance when the crowd went nuts for him and he said that was a really special appearance for him. When our car was ready and we said our goodbyes, Alex looked up at me with a big grin and pumped his fist and said "I got to meet Andy Ashby!" How cool is that for a just turned 10 year old?

Oh yeah - and Ashby's exact quote about Giles was "He's crazy!" ;->

You know what's great about Ashby...

We took a ballpark tour at the Q back in '98 and got to see his locker, which had some prominently displayed, slightly crass memorablia. Apparently, Ashby's not one to shy away from the dirty jokes. It's too bad Alex isn't a few years older, you might've had a chance to hear one.
