Geoff Jenkins?

1/13/07 -- According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, it's possible the Padres will acquire Geoff Jenkins to play left field. The Brewers would eat some of the $7.5 million they still owe Jenkins in order to move him. Still, the Padres don't have a lot to give up in return. This is one trade possibility in which Scott Linebrink's name should not surface.

Jenkins....
This is from Ken Rosenthal's column on FOX Sports.com earlier today:

"Rival general managers are skeptical of the Padres' claim that they plan to play Terrmel Sledge in left. The Padres are one of the teams interested in Barry Bonds, but ultimately they could sign a lesser free agent or make a trade for someone like the Brewers' Geoff Jenkins."

Let's have some fun out here! This game's fun, OK? Fun goddamnit.

Great Glove
I do not think there are any questions about his glove, range, or arm.

I don't believe so.
Corner outfielders need to be able to hit, though.

Jenkins...
He hit lefties for shit last season. And not all that much better against righties, for that matter.

His numbers last year . . .
AVG .271 | HR 17 | RBI 70 | OBP .357 | SLG .434

Not overwhelming, but I do like his approach to the game.  This guy always busts ass.

I have no idea why many seem higher on Kevin Mench.  His number's last year:

AVG .269 | HR 13 | RBI 68 | OBP .313 | SLG .419

And he does not play Gold Glove caliber defense.

Re: Mench
I'm not sure what the appeal is either.  MGL seemed really high on him, though, and that guy tends to know his stuff.

Cruz/Jenkins
Geoff Jenkins last 3 years against right handed pitching (left handed piching):

.297 .366 .511 .877 (.211 .307 .368 .675)

Jose Cruz Jr last 3 years against left handed pitching (right handed piching):

.291 .392 .493 .885 (.226 .330 .415 .745)

A platoon would give you one vey good player:

.295 .373 .506 .879 (.75 Jenkins and .25 Cruz).

Enzo
You're right on your numbers. That would be a pretty good platoon...BUT...KT is dangling Liney for a LF fielder with power...I hope we get more than a platoon-type player for Linebrink.

Pat Burrell? The Phillies need help in the bullpen.
