Around SBN: Dog Football! Which Breeds Are Best Suited For The Gridiron?

Open Thread: Brian Giles

For those of you still digesting your Christmas dinners and not in the mood to talk about Big Units. Let's talk about everybody's favorite right fielder voted Most Likely to Simultaneously Use Two Different Types of Hair Product in What's Left of His Pubes... Brian Giles!

People always seem to cool on Gilly, but he's been productive. And now that Marcus is in town, how is that going to affect our guy? Three different types of hair product!? The mind boggles.

What does the Gaslamp Ball foretell for the elder Giles?

Batting First: Giles, Batting Second: Giles
I say move Brian to leadoff. Let's face it, that beautiful OPB is best served in the leadoff spot. He obviously isn't afraid to get walks, but I have a feeling he is going to see a few more hittable pitches at the top of the lineup. Maybe that, along with lower power expectations in general, will lead to some more homeruns. Even though he is not a huge stolen base threat, he is a hardnose, aggresive and SCARY baserunner.

Is, and will always be, The Anchor
Brian Giles is the anchor of the Padres team. We go where Brian Giles does.

Over last season I was forced to come to grips with the fact that he's on his way out. I feel like sometimes he needs to not look for the walk - sometimes we dont need a man on base, we need the man at first or second to cross home plate! I'd like to see him a little more aggressive and go after the ball a little more. Scare some motherfu*kers up there! His power is dwindling, but maybe he can go out like Tony Gwynn and hit .338! :)

As much as I like his OBP at leadoff, as long as he leads the team in RBI I want him in the middle of the lineup.

Gwynn's Article...
Yeah, I read that too and I loved it!  I'm new to understanding all of the details of playing professional baseball, and after reading that article I've come to the conclusion that Tony Gwynn is a genius!

I'm very proud that someone as skilled and as talented as Mr. Gwynn was a Padre.  My only regret is that I never got to see him play before he retired.  "Seven grains of pain," that's good stuff.

I can't wait for the day that he becomes a Padre Manager.  Think it'll ever happen??
