Reviewing the 2007 schedule

I've noticed a few quirks about the schedule that I figured I'd share with the group.  The highlight for me of course is the mid-summer weekend hosting of the Red Sox in beautiful PETCO.  These will be premium tickets for a premium series with three no-doubt-about-it sellouts in the gaslamp.

A few other things:

  • Our only road trips to AL teams are the annual weekend trip to Seattle and a mid-week series at Tropicana Field in Tampa.  Good draw there, our road trip to the AL East is to play the Devil Rays!  The two teams we are hosting from the AL East are the Orioles (a weak team in my opinion) and said Sox.
  • We have two trips to Wrigley!  And one of them is on a weekend, the weekend before the Sox at PETCO.  If you have never been to Wrigley or Chicago please make this your out-of-town trip of the year, you'll thank me later.
  • there are ZERO weekend trips to SF.  I am sorta upset about this.  I am dying to see that ballpark in person but I don't wanna see a Giants-Rockies game.
  • we neither start nor end the season at home.  WTF??  At least we got opening day last year.  That is weird I figured for ticket sales reasons each team should get one or the other.
  • most of the home games in May are hosting NL Central opponents.  That is easily the weakest division in baseball so hopefully we can reproduce some May magic from years past
  • there are no 2nd trips by a non-division NL opponent (like the two visits from Atlanta last year)
  • I really wish that June 7th game hosting the Dodgers would have the start time changed so it can be a mid-week day game.
  • Did I mention how jazzed I am about the Series hosting the Red Sox?  Can you picture the matchups?  Maddux vs Schilling?  C.H. Park vs Matsuzaka?  Hensley vs Papelbon?  Wow that will be a fun weekend.

    Giants vs Rockies
That's the exact matchup Jess and I saw the one time we went to telephone park. Schmidt had a 1 hitter going into the 8th or something. Moises Alou splashdown shot.

    Telephone Park
I would like to see a fun game there this summer.  Maybe I should try and catch a Dodgers game there so that I can actually root for the home team. (of course, that would be dependent on the standings and relative to the Padres position in those standings)
Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

    i saw giants-rockies too
well actually i didn't see very much, because i spent most of the time freezing my ass off and left in the 6th inning.

also, i really hate how the season doesn't start till tuesday. it almost ruins the best day of the year.

    Ugh...
No weekend series with the Giants in San Fran??  Guess I'll have to make that road trip in '08.  A weekend trip to Wrigley Field does sound like a good idea.

    Wrigley
When I moved here from NY I took the train across so I could see a bit of the country.  I made several stops including a half day in Chicago coz I'd never been to Wrigley Field.  Caught a decent game (Braves/Cubs) but the Rev is right-on, well worth the atmosphere...

So who you rooting for in the Boston match-up?  Should we bring rotten tomatoes?  He he!

Without a doubt I will be rooting for the Padres
I guess that question deserves asking so let it be known that I will be rooting for a Padres sweep that weekend.  Cheers to hope.

    ...and the next question is...
...so what are the rules on team apparel?  I have a lot of Red Sox gear and a growing collection of Padres promotional gear.

For example, can I wear a BoSox 2004 Champs shirt with an SD hat?  I mean, can I wear it in public like to a Sox/Padres game...?

    team gear rules
I'm going to have to mix and match at the games.  Meredith jersey over 2004 WS champs tee, Ortiz jersey over 2006 division champs tee, etc.  ^_^  I don't care what the rules are!

    rules is rules
    I'm bringing me tomatoes...

I'll get me some of Enzo's roids and beef up my eye-hand coordination; hopefully if you are mixing and matching I'll be able to reduce the spatter on the blue to a minimum.

    See ya' there!!   ;)
