Season Ticketholder Event Tonight

Alex and I are going to the Season Ticketholder event tonight at Petco. Obviously this is for 2006 ticket plans! It sounds like a very cool event - my seat neighbor the last three years recommended that I go this time. Parking will be free, concessions will be open of course, but they will also serve us free light food and non-alchoholic beverages. Padres gear will also be on sale 50-60% off tonight just for us.

Star-divide

I just received a phone call from a Padres ticket representative asking if I was going and then asking about renewal for 2007. I had to tell him no, but he was very understanding about my reasons. He filled me in on what to expect tonight and thanked me for supporting the Padres the last three years. Maybe I am a pushover, but I thought it was a nice touch that they are making those calls. Oh! Then he reminded me that I had a credit on my marketplace account and he said he would get a refund check out. Sheesh! I totally forgot and now I have a little more holiday $$ coming. Sweet.

So guys - if they let us ask questions - what should I ask?

score
The winner was Kevin Towers of the Padres, who bowled in the mid-160s.

mid-160s?
That's what won?  Damn.  What are these GMs doing that the best of the bunch bowls a 160?

Take the GM's Bowling....Take Them Bowling....
Richard, I hope they're busy working on improving their ballclubs. :)
Let's have some fun out here! This game's fun, OK? Fun goddamnit.

Re: Improving their ballclubs
Shouldn't the Cubs' GM be winning this thing then?

Jim Hendry...
I hear he has Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Re: Hendry
So that's what he's doing instead of making the Cubs better.

I'll be there tonight
Christina,

I went last year and it was a fun event.  In fact, it was my first event at PETCO.  We had just moved here and were invited by a friend with season tickets.  Something new this year is the discounted merchandise.  Although I'll bet it's all NLDS and Division Champ stuff (still pretty cool).

There is a Q&A portion where about 5 or 6 people got to ask questions to Sandy, KT, Grady Fuson, and/or the manager.

Tonight, I am going to register to be a question asker.  I will be wearing my gaslampball tee.  What should I ask???

One of these probably, unless anyone else has something better:

A)  are we going to offer arbitration to Roberts and Piazza?

B)  are we going to follow the mandate to make this team better this offseason?

C)  are we going to host the 2009 WBC finals? (for Sandy)

I guess I will ask one of those.  I don't know yet and I'm still working on it.

Got a flight for tonight and I'm ready to ROLL! All my homies checkin fo' me and I'm ready to GO!

How could I forget my t-shirt!!
(smacking forehead) Ugh! I was so into packing warm change of clothes for the event that I totally forgot my gaslamp shirt. Ok, I might need to get outta work a little earlier than I planned and stop by at home to remedy that situation. I will look for you Rev!

A) I think the answer is no to both of them. As mush as I love (ok, lust) after Piazza, I think he should go to an American league team now. It's time. Word is Oakland wants him and I hope that is where he lands.

B) Of course they will say yes to that! I'm listening to Darren Smith right now and I think he made a most excellent point - the Padres farm system MUST be lacking in talent if we need to keep throwing around our major league guys as trade bait. Perhaps a question about what we are doing to improve our minor league programs?

C) - Good one! I hope so. I liked that event a lot.

Regarding question A)
the reason I want to ask that question is because Piazza is a "Type A" free agent and Roberts is a "Type B" free agent.

If a team offers arbitration to a "Type A" free agent and then he signs with another team, that new team forfeits its first round pick in the draft to the orginal team.

If a team offers arbitration to a "Type B" free agent who then signs with another team, the team who loses the free agent is awarded a "sandwich pick" between the first and second rounds of the June first year player draft.

Definitely some business decisions to be made, especially with the arbitration deadline of tomorrow.

We have a friend
that has season tickets but can't make it.  What do you need to show them.  We have her season ticket number, will that do?  What time does it start?

by jbox on Nov 30, 2006 4:21 PM PST   0 recs

that should work
Last year they didn't even look at our invitation, just let us right in.

re: take the gm's bowling...
Drama, I don't think you need a club for bowling, the ball has holes in it for your fingers and you just chuck it.  Course I'm no expert...
