Around SBN: Where Do The Lakers Go From Here?

Appreciation

Jess and I just got back from Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor where we celebrated crazy Jonny Dub's birthday with his girl Sheona, faithful reader tfast and...

wait for it...

Jbox.

That's right ladies. The jbox is back. I wonder if he'll post something.

Teemcee points out something a little surprising. We have a Padre as one of the top 5 vote getters for his position. From the article:

Catcher Roberto Hernandez is the only Padre ranking in the top five at their position. Hernandez's 642,275 places him fourth, more than half a million votes behind Mets backstop Mike Piazza.
Well... At least they got the name of the team right.

Breaking News:Can't we get some respect
I was slowly trying to get motivated to get ready for the day and I thought to myself, you know I don't think I looked at my mail from Thursday yet.  I say this only because it is SI delivery day.  I look on the cover and it said "Baseball Mid Season Report".  I said sure I can procrastinate a little longer before I get out of my PJ's.  Imagine my horror as I am flipping through and I reach page 53, to see what looks to be a 1-10 ranking system with a snap shot of DJ celebrating at #7.  I look to see what being #7 means only to find out, "Which division is the weakest?"  Answer: "The NL West, which doesn't figure to get much better.  The Padres should ride their 22-5 hot streak in May to the title.  San Diego is 20-29 otherwise, and a 43-43 finish might still be enough to win the division.  For the first time in the 10 full seasons of the six divisions format, the NL West champs will have fewer than 90 wins."  I am speechless.... are you kidding me SI.  The Padres are tied with ATL for the third best record in the NL. The West is not the weakest division; the West has always been strong and a fight to death division.  SI is on crack. I am personally amazed at how well our Padres are doing with so many players on the DL.
I do not know gang, I am so fired up I don't know if I can drive sanely down the 15 to work.
Solution:  Padres win the Series an SI will be force to kiss our tushes.  But I am sure they will find a way to throw us under the bus.  I can see it now "This year Baseball was weak because the Padres took the championship" The Padres are going to take the championship because they are strong, dedicated and determine individuals that honestly are a family with one another.
Thank you for letting me rant.

I read this too.
I think it is a bunch of crap!  Why can't SI give the Pads the respect they deserve?

In May
They did have some nice things in there about us. And there was that nice little interview with Klesko. Sports Illustrated is the biggest bandwagon jumper. If anything, all it means is that they won't curse us with the cover any time soon.

Peavy
They had a nice article about Peavy too.

Was that SI?
I remember the Peavy article in ESPN, which was excellent. I didn't catch the one about Peavy.

Good article
Though I love reading about our guys. Love Hoffman.

Ironic that it is called Rolaids Relief Pitcher...
cause sometimes Hoffman gives me heartburn.

We were talking about how we have certain expectations of players earlier...and this is no knock to Hoffman but actually a compliment, I really think we are so hard on him because he has set his own personal bar so high that anything less than a 1 2 3 ninth is a bad outing.

The fact that his fastball is not in the 90's gives us more room to criticize.

And I think most telling, that fact that he is so level headed, so unaffected by games outcome or previous games outcome, that we as average heart fluttering, nervous wretches, can't stand the fact he can blow a save and seem almost unphased by it, and then funnel all the pent up energy not shown by Hoffman ourselves.

That being said, hes deserves Hall of Fame status and is one of the classiest guys ever to put on a uniform.  Ever see him play with the kids on that little ball park.  He does it every now and then before games.
